S hk postiohjelmista l ytyi vakava turvallisuusongelma

Article Abstract:

Finnish researchers have detected in e-mail programmes a fault allowing a computer virus to enter computers with an e-mail. After being activated the virus could delete the hard disks of millions of programme users. According to programme manufacturers there have been no reports of problems caused by the fault. After being informed about the fault the e-mail programme manufacturers Microsoft and Netscape have started work to fix the problem. The companies promise new versions of the programmes soon. The problem is due to the programmes not being able to handle attached files with extremely long names. The virus in the attachment may stay in the computer's memory. Microsoft Stockholm is extremely grateful to the Finnish researchers who notified the company of the fault as soon as it was detected.
