SUGAR PRODUCTION TO TOUCH 155 LAKH TONNES IN '98-99

Article Abstract:

The sugar output for 1998-99 is projected at 150 lakh to 155 lakh tonnes in India. The projection for 1997-98 was 128 lakh tonnes. Sugar output reached a record high of 162 lakh tonnes in 1995-96. Maharashtra's sugar output is likely to increase by 600,000 tonnes to 700,000 tonnes and Tamil Nadu's by 300,000 tonnes. India has 55 lakh tonnes of carryover stocks from the last season (October 1997-September 1998). (rk)
