Nordic dairy companies have to co-operate closely instead of compete with each other owing to the globalisation of the dairy market. International food giants are the main competitors to national and regional dairy companies such as Danish MD Foods and Swedish Arla. So said ke Modig, MD of Arla, at a meeting with representatives of MD Foods' owners. Arla's strategy is to become more aggressive on international markets, and to develop strong brands, he said.

Two Danish private railway companies, Vestbanen A/S and Vemb-Lemvig-Thybor n Jernbane A/S, have initiated an unusual co-operation project, aimed at streamlining operations and cutting costs. The reason behind the project is a statement by the Danish Minister of Transport, who said that the companies had to cut costs and improve service level. Otherwise the railways risk to be closed down and replaced by bus traffic.
