SWEDEN: RUMOURS OF BANK CONSOLIDATION

Article Abstract:

Goran Collert, chairman of the board in Swedish bank Foreningssparbanken, says that he believes in a continued consolidation of the Nordic bank sector. Collert finds the Swedish bank SE-Banken an interesting partner. Foreningssparbanken has, according to Collert, three possible alternatives: to consolidate within Sweden, to merge with a bank in another Nordic country or to aim at an alliance. A consolidation with SE-Banken would strengthen the market position in Europe, according to Collert.
