SWITZERLAND: CASINO OPENS A UNIT IN GENEVA

Article Abstract:

Casino intends to open ten stores in Switzerland in the medium term, through contracts signed with Sogola, a Monaco-based company which has operated the Casino retail chain in Monaco for seven years. Sogola has opened the first Casino store in Switzerland at Geneva. This store with 1,300 square metres of sales space carries 5,000 products, of which 20% are French products. In order to set itself apart from the competition, this store is pricing its products 10% less than the competition, and is putting forward its own products, not including chilled products.

FRANCE: CASINO REORGANISES ITS LOGISTICS

Article Abstract:

The Casino group has decided to subsidiarise its logistics. It has founded Easy-Dis, a subsidiary designed to become one of the first French logistics service companies. Casino expects Easy Dis to make a turnover of FFr 2.5bn, within two years, and 30% of this will be from clients outside of the group. Easy Dis will have management tools adapted to supply chains and it will have 500,000 square metres of warehouses. It intends to offer services which are adapted to its clients, taking in hand flow management, stocks, order preparation, and deliveries. The delivery service is subcontracted to transport specialists selected on the bases of a very precise specifications sheet.

TAIWAN: CASINO OPENS A HYPERMARKET

Article Abstract:

Casino, the French retail group, opened its first Geant hypermarket at Taichung on the island of Taiwan on 18 December 1998. This hypermarket has 10,000 square metres of sales space on two levels, one for food products and one for non-food products. It is part of a shopping centre which has thirty shops and is located in a 7-storey building; four of these are parking lots. A second hypermarket is to be opened at Kaohsiung in April 1999, and a third is to be opened at Taoyuan at the end of 1999.
