SWITZERLAND: REVIEW OF LAITERIES REUNIES

Article Abstract:

Les Laiteries Reunies (LRG), the Swiss dairy cooperative, based near Geneva, consists of several companies: Vivadis, which produces chilled dairy products for the Lake Leman market; Del Maitre which makes processed meats; Ottiger, a cheese company; and Nutrilait. Nutrilait processes 45mn litres of milk into Danone products, via a license dating from 1930; it sells soft cheeses, and has an importing/ wholesale business. Nutrilait has been reorganised into four branches corresponding to its businesses: Val d'Arve SA (reblochon, tomme, and soft cheeses; Nutrifrais SA (Danone brand products and private labels); Euro-Frais Transit SA (logistics and distribution branch); and Nutrilait SA, the dairy products branch.

BOSNIA: BIDS FOR PRIVATISATION OF MILCO

Article Abstract:

The government of Bosnia-Herzegovina has issued an invitation to tender for the sale of 67% of the equity in the Milco dairy company, of which 12.63% is already in private hands. Information concerning the company and the invitation to tender are available on www.apf.com.ba, the awarder's site. Information may be obtained from Agnes Paulus at the CFCE (French Foreign Trade Centre) telephone (33) 1 40 73 38 77. The closing date for this offer is 19 February 2001. The 20.37% of the capital still held by the government is to be sold by public offers.

SLOVAKIA: DANONE'S OBJECTIVES

Article Abstract:

On 20 January 2000, Danone, the French food giant, put a FFr 50mn dairy product production unit into service in Slovakia. This unit has three packaging lines and makes four type of yogurt with 170 employees. These include yogurt with crushed fruit, plain yogurt, and non-fat yogurt. Every day, 35,000 tonnes of milk are collected, and 32 tonnes of products are manufactured. It aims for 50,000 tonnes of milk in September 2000. The Danone group's objectives are to produce more products at the plant and to increase its market share from 25% to 30%.
