Safety in numbers

Article Abstract:

The Architype Design Co-operative was established in 1982. It is an architectural parctice committed to good design and a co-operative organisation. The ten members have a portfolio of work in the public sector and are known for their use of post and beam timber construction. Architype's co-operative organisation and emphasis on careful management is enabling it to survive the recession. The consulting engineering practice, Michael Barclay Partnership was set up in 1974 to concentrate on small projects. It has a democratic structure and has built up a range of experience of both small and large jobs.

Article Abstract:

A theatre and mulit-purpose social centre have been built in High Wycombe, England. Designed by Buckinghamshire County Architects, the entertainments centre comprises a new 1,000 seat auditorium with the social centre in the old Town Hall. Design and construction were completed rapidly after a lengthy planning process during the 1980s. The Town Hall was refurbished under a design and build contract and is disappointing. However, the theatre makes the most of a difficult site and is proving successful.
