Rebuilding the American dream

Article Abstract:

New York, NY. based architect, Beyer Blinder Belle (BBB) is known for its refurbishment of historic buildings. The practice is working on the refurbishment of New York's Grand Central Terminal and is responsible for the highly praised Ellis Island Museum of Immigration. BBB grew steadily from its foundation in 1968 until 1990. However, the firm has been affected by the recession and, since 1991, has reduced staff and cut costs drastically. The remaining employees have worked hard and used computer technology to improve productivity. Partner, John Belle believes more change is inevitable.

The hospital's developer

Article Abstract:

Colin Rickard is director of projects for the Royal Free Hospital Trust, London, England. A supporter of the hospital trust concept, Rickard manages the hospital's estate and is involved in planning and management issues. He has a seat on the trust's board and is keen to be involved in the general running of the hospital. Rickard trained as a quantity surveyor and worked in property management and consultancy before joining the National Health Service.
