Sales pitch for quality

Article Abstract:

Keith Brooks is business development manager for quantity surveyor, E C Harris. He co-ordinates the company's marketing strategy, ensuring there is no duplication of effort within its network of 23 offices. Brooks aims to have a flexible attitude to marketing and be able to respond quickly to new opportunities. He favours networking between complementary businesses and teamwork but believes architects should concentrate on their design skills rather than project management. Brooks' marketing plans are based on targetting specific client groups and addressing their needs while emphasising professionalism and quality.

New fire Regs: case for delay (proposed Fire Regulations)(includes definitions)

Article Abstract:

New fire regulations are due to be introduced in Jan 1993. The Fire Precautions (Places of Work) Regulations 1992 will cover all places of work, from small studios to large hotels. New buildings will have to comply immediately while existing workplaces must comply by 1996. The Regulations have been widely criticised as being too costly for businesses, impractical to enforce and inconsistent. The Royal Institution of British Architects has called for the introduction to be delayed.
