Trainees seize ships off Mozambique

Joint fisheries patrols in Southern African waters have resulted in arrests, big fines and huge rises in fishing licence revenues. Two ships alleged to be fishing illegally in Mozambican waters, were arrested by trainee fisheries inspectors from Mozambique and South Africa using small arms and stun grenades.

Woman jailed ten years for abalone smuggling
Article Abstract:
Elizabeth Marx the female leader of an abalone smuggling syndicate has been sentenced to ten years of imprisonment in South Africa under their new racketeering laws. Marx is believed to have traded 90 tones of illegally harvested abalone worth $2 million through the syndicate between 2000 & 2003.
