Tokio Marine and Fire Insurance Co., the leading casualty-insurance firm in Japan, and two other insurance firms, Asahi Mutual Life Insurance Co. and Nichido Fire and Marine Insurance Co., are entering into the last stage of negotiations that could eventually lead to a merger.

Sampo to buy stake in rival Pohjola. (Finland's Sampo Insurance Group Oyj buys 23.6% of Pohjola Oyj)

Article Abstract:

Finland's insurance giant Sampo Insurance Group buys 23.6 percent of Pohjola Oyj, another Finnish insurance company for 377 million in Euro dollars. Sampo Insurance Group also announced a merger with Leonia Bank. As part of buying a stake in Pohjola, Sampo Insurance acquired Pohjola's stake in Skandia Group Forsakrings AB, a Swedish insurance company.
