S&P downgrade brings the demise of Yukos closer

Article Abstract:

U.S. rating agency Standard and Poor's has reduced the credit rating for Russia's OAO Yukos from Double-C to Single-D following the oil company's failure to meet an interest payment on one of its bank loans. The company, a former leader in the Russian petroleum industry, recently lost its core asset, Yuganskneftegas, in a forced sale. Analysts believe that Yukos's current financial woes may spell problems for Yuganskneftegas's new owners since Yukos formerly used exports from the unit to secure its loans.
