Science and sensibility

Article Abstract:

It is important to fight against a one-dimensional view of heritage, according to English Heritage Chmn-designate Sir Neil Cossons, who has directed the Science Museum since 1986. He expresses admiration for Sir Jocelyn Stevens, his predecessor at English Heritage, but anticipates that his style will be different. He feels that there is a need for a more coordinated approach to the listing of historic buildings, but acknowledges that this presents practical challenges.
