Scotland's new politics

Article Abstract:

There have been debates on divisions within the United Kingdom and whether it is breaking up. Scotland has a new parliament with electronic voting, a horseshoe seating arrangement, and a working day that allows members to see thier families. There are a number of newcomers to politics who seek to provide information rather than indulging in pointscoring. Many of the debates related to minor and local issues. Scottish politics relates to Scotland, but it is unclear whether there is a drive toward independence.

How liberal?

Article Abstract:

Scotland has been seen as more tolerant and liberal than England, but this may not be the case. Scotland had more Liberal Democrat and Labor MPs than Britain as a whole when the Conservatives ruled, but they favor redistribution of wealth, but attitudes are similar to those of England on a number of issues such as state enterprises. There has also been opposition in Scotland to the repeal of Section 28 of the Local Government Act, probiting homosexuality from being promoted.

Jack the cad

Article Abstract:

The scandals which have plagued the Scottish Parliament could undermine Labour's grip on Scottish politics. Scottish Education minister Jack McConnell's confession of an extra-marital affair seven years ago is aimed at making him a 'clean' candidate for the post of first minister.
