Article Abstract:

The European exchange-rate mechanism was in danger of collapsing after the German central bank refused to lower interest rates, fearing such a move would increase Germany's already high inflation. The move may backfire on Germany if it causes another currency crisis.

Interest rates will remain high in 1993 despite the recessionary Germany economy. The Dec 10, 1992 Bundesbank council meeting ignored pleas from major financial institutions for 6-8% M3 growth and adopted a 4.5-6.5% policy.
