Both Peugeot and Renault have climbed away from the brink of collapse, thanks to shrewd marketing, increased product quality and government aid. The prospects for a continuation of the trend in the face of European Community challenges is analyzed.

Parents are protesting a court decision that plans to integrate students by class rather than race. They feel this will undermine the good schools. Although allegedly not racial, most of the poorer classes are minorities.
