Shin shares expected to rise

Shin Corp's share prices are expected to rise at significant levels, as it gears for the New York Stock Exchange in the early part of 2000. Through Shin's Nasdaq listings, foreign investors may be able to purchase shares and trade them via Thailand's foreign board or American depositary receipts. Shin's entry to the New York stock exchange is also expected to increase foreign and local share values. Most significantly, Shin's US listings would provide exposure to Thailand in the best telecommunications industry.

VSNL may still be a bargain; telecom firm has appeal despite run-up

Videsh Sanchar Nigam Ltd (VSNL), India's long distance telephone services monopoly, remains inexpensive in the face of increase telecommunications stock prices in Asia due to investors' preference for technology and Internet firms. VSNL's stock price has increased by more than 50% but it is still trading at a big discount compared to its competitors in the region. The company's shares are being traded in London in the form of global depository receipts.
