Shooting at inflation: in most economies, interest rates will soon need to be raised, not cut

Article Abstract:

The Federal Reserve Board's 1994 hikes in interest rates were necessary, and the Fed should consider raising rates again, as the US economy is heating up. The jobless rate is low, and the risk of inflation is great. Germany and Japan are also discussed.

Think smaller: Japanese regional banks

Article Abstract:

Japan's regional banks are doing well in areas where the economy is bustling, partly because the portfolios of these smaller banks do not include loans for construction. Large urban banks are having serious financial difficulties.

Waiting for Mieno: Japanese interest rates

Article Abstract:

Japan's central bank will almost certainly lower interest rates for the fifth time since Jul 1991. The country's weakening economy is plagued by poor monetary growth. The Bank of Japan is behaving in an extremely cautious manner.
