Siberian smelter aims for modern approach; ambitious plans pit company against Russia's top producers

Article Abstract:

Siberian Aluminum Group, a holding company owning shares in aviation, agriculture, and aluminum, is attempting to become the first modern, vertically integrated aluminum firm in Russia. It is currently competing against the leading two aluminum companies in Russia, along with Trans World Group, their metals-trading partner. Oleg Deripaska, Siberian Aluminum president, stated that he wanted to break away from tolling and construct a modern, vertically integrated company managing diverse projects, including the production of alumina and the rolling of sheet metal and aluminum foil.

Alcoa, Reynolds merger probe to be extended

Article Abstract:

In order to insure that there will be no price-fixing by an oligopoly, the proposed merger of Alcoa (aluminum) and Reynolds Metal Co. will be subjected to an additional 4 months probe by the European Commission's competition department.
