Siemens, Daimler, BNP are faulted in Iraq-oil fraud

Article Abstract:

An investigative report of the United Nations oil for food scandal with the Iraqi government of Saddam Hussein has discovered thousands of companies were involved. Bribery allegations include Siemens AG at $1.6 million, Volvo Construction Equipment Corp. at $317,000 and DaimlerChrysler AG at $7,000. Saddam Hussein was able to collect approximately $2 billion in illegal taxation and kickbacks using a United Nations humanitarian aid program.

The Securities and Exchange Commission and the U.S. Department of Justice are investigating whether Halliburton Co. was involved in bribing Nigerian officials. British lawyer Jeffrey Tesler in a central figure in the investigation. He is apparently well-connected to the Nigerian ruling class, including General Abacha.

Focus of Nigerian fraud inquiry shifts to prominent Swiss banker

An investigation into the alleged theft of about $2 billion from the Nigerian Central Bank and bribery by late Nigerian dictator Sani Abacha has implicated a prominent Swiss-Israeli banker. Gabriel Katri, GK Finance & Commerce S.A., was arrested on charges of money laundering.
