Siemens calls for change in image with phone ads

Article Abstract:

Siemens AG of Germany will launch the new Siemens SL10 line of digital phones in Asia and Europe supported by an extensive advertising campaign with the theme "Be Inspired." The campaign in Europe will include ads in TV, print media and the Internet that feature creative celebrities who will talk on how they were inspired by the phone. Hendrik Geissler, president of marketing at Siemens AG Private Communications Devices, said the campaign will allow Siemens to project a new image as well as associate the phone with a certain lifestyle. He said that consumers now choose mobile phones on several factors including brand image and aesthetic features rather than on technology.

The article discusses the trend of placing mega-ads over city sites and on buildings in Europe, especially in Germany. Although building owners like the trend because they can make money while using ugly scaffolding during renovations, it is not always easy to get permits for outdoor advertising, and some advertising plans have provoked civic opposition.
