Silver top with a green twist

Article Abstract:

Architects Chetwood Associates were asked by J. Sainsbury PLC to undertake a study project looking at new ways to design a supermarket. Once Sainsbury won the contract to build a new supermarket nearby the Millennium Village in Greenwich, London, England, they were willing to put some of Chetwood's ideas into practice. The roof has been designed to maximize natural light in the building, to assist ventilation by its aerodynamic shape and to cut energy use. The roof is made of mill-finished aluminum, it was manufactured by Euroclad on site.

Unpopular estates better to local management

Article Abstract:

The local management of unpopular local authority housing estates has been successful according to a new report from the Joseph Rowntree Foundation. The estates consisted of cottage estates which were the most difficult to let, balcony walk-up estates and modern concrete complex estates. Local management involved establishing offices on the estates, increased tenant consultation, and this led to a fall in the volume of empty property and turnover of population. Crime also fell and facilities and services were increased.
