Fund managers are still optimistic of the Philippine financial markets despite the 14% overall slide in the country's composite index in 1997. Fund managers expect the Philippine financial market to rebound since only 15% of loans of Philippine banks are made in the property sector. Corporate fund managers anticipate average corporate earnings growth in 1997 to be between 15% and 20%, from an early year forecast from 25% to 30%. Fund managers are more concerned on the Philippine's current account deficit, which is placed at 3.7% of the GDP and the projected 7.1% inflation in 1997.

Article Abstract:

Investors may find a better bargain in Asian mutual fund securities, as companies adopt a positive approach in disclosing wide-ranging financial information to investors. The trend, which was prompted by the regional financial crisis, has not only provided investors with vast opportunities to assess their financial accounts, but enable them to anticipate market patterns, as well. Companies started to adopt such a measure after studies revealed that failure in stock markets is not only accounted by poor performance, but is also associated with inadequate information disclosure.
