Sliding GM tries to regain traction

Aiming to bolster its operations worldwide, U.S.-based auto maker General Motors Corp. is reorganizing its vehicle development, introducing new brands, and launching a U.S. sales promotion to clear out its more than 1.2 million unsold vehicles at home. Nevertheless, job losses are expected in the U.S. and have been the focus of union negotiations in Europe.

General Motors Corp. is expected to present a more ambitious restructuring of General Motors Acceptance Corp. The consumer finance company earned $2.9 billion last year or about 80 percent net income of General Motors Corp. Both General Motors Corp. and General Motors Acceptance Corp. were downgraded by Fitch.
