VHDL - panacea or hype?

Article Abstract:

The very high-speed integrated circuit hardware description language (VHDL) standard is beginning to solve design problems after considerable controversy and a lengthy standardization process. Computer-aided design has gone through many stages, with each tool in each stage requiring designers to learn new, proprietary languages. VHDL standardizes the design process but has met with obstacles to its popularity and implementation. VHDL proponents had to get the language accepted and then build tools for it, slowing down the process. The advantage to this process is that it is not controlled by vendors, so the standard is not controlled by vendors. Vendors do, however, need to support the standard for it to be successful, but different vendors support it differently, and compatibility among products cannot be assumed. Also, it is advantageous for designers to have multiple standards to choose from, a situation that makes VHDL still more controversial.

Deck defense

Article Abstract:

Many things can cause a deck to age and deteriorate. However, finding the correct remedy to deck damage can be confusing because of the number of products available. Cleaners deal with mold and stains while finishing agents such as sealers and stains preserve the deck.
