Sotheby's net falls 6%, hurt by Internet costs

Sotheby's Holdings Inc. posted a drop of 6% in its earnings for the second-quarter of 1999. The lower results were blamed on Internet costs and on a drop in art-related financing revenues. Sotheby's posted $31.7 million (29.5 million euros) in net income for the quarter. During the same period in 1998, the art auction house reported $33.6 million. The figures were close to what analysts had expected.
