Spain and Portugal: Spain begins to recover

Article Abstract:

The Spanish and Portuguese markets for management buyouts appear to be undergoing a recovery. The value of transactions dropped in Spain in 1993 following a rise in 1992, then rose again in 1994. The market saw a rise in volume and value terms in Portugal in 1994. Spanish owners of private companies tend to have a negative attitude toward buyouts, and are not keen on letting go after the transaction has taken place. Opportunities in both countries are likely to increase as they emerge from recession.
