Spaniards make election a referendum on terrorism: with al Qaeda link emerging, bombings to have wide impact

The Madrid train station bombings and the outcome of Spain's national elections are expected to influence the global arena for the war against terrorism. Preliminary investigations indicate that suspects in the bombings have ties to al Qaeda, which would more deeply involve the European Union in antiterror discourse.

Lay, Skilling are convicted of fraud

Former executives of Enron Corp. of the United States, Kenneth L. Lay and Jeffrey Skilling have been convicted of a string of conspiracy and fraud charges. The high profile criminal case was a wakeup call to corporate America. Mr. Lay and Mr. Skilling will be sentenced on September 11th, 2006.
