There is a growing trend towards high-efficiency building design, spurred by the need for energy conservation and sustainable development. However, too many buildings are labelled as green when they are obviously not, such as buildings with glass facades. Evolution of design must include a new generation of responsive cladding materials which will lead to new kinds of intelligent buildings that are more energy efficient.
