Spreading the design data

Article Abstract:

The 1993 Construction Industry Computing Exhibition will reflect trends in the industry. AutoCAD is becomming the dominant influence in the computer-aided design (CAD) market, allowing for more integration of data between systems. The increasing similarity of CAD systems is also presenting management opportunities. Other trends are; a move away from the Macintosh and towards Windows and the convergence of CAD and business systems. There will be few completely new products at the show.

More than just ticking over

Article Abstract:

Computer aided design (CAD) software is becomming cheaper. FastCAD is a small firm which sells software which is cheaper but almost as functional as the market leaders. However, Intergraph is preparing for an increased market and offering an attractive package of hardware and CAD software. Autodesk have released version 12 of AutoCAD with 174 improvements to the software. Other new products include plotters, printers, portable computers and building services systems.

Keeping the cool pies moving

Article Abstract:

Architect Hunter and Partners designed Waitrose's new warehouse in Bracknell, England. The 7,000 sq mt warehouse is temperature-controlled using ammonia as a refrigerant. The design is box-in-a-shed. The roll cage area of the warehouse is kept at 4 deg C, while a temperature of 2 deg C is maintained in the high-bay area.
