Racial issues, particularly prejudice against African Americans, continue to plague the US. A recent survey reveals that 70% of young black males feel affected by discrimination. Pres Clinton's new focus on the issue and the views of several social commentators are discussed.

The economic growth of Chicago, IL, is being fueled by consumer-driven manufacturing industries, interest-rate cuts, a political climate favoring business, and good productivity. Chicago's economic decline had begun with the oil industry crisis of 1974-75.
