Thai fund settles some issues in bank sale

HSBC Holdings PLC's purchase of a majority share in Bangkok Metropolitan Bank PCL has had some outstanding issues settled by the state rescue fund of Thailand. HSBC is acquiring 75% of Bangkok Metropolitan.

Standard Chartered's 'spa' aims to lure wealthy Thai clients

Standard Chartered Bank PLC's newest effort to attract upscale customers to Standard Chartered Nakornthon Bank, the former Nakornthon Bank that was acquired in 1999, includes increasing name recognition by television advertising that uses Thais' strong family ties and, more recently, by offering a "financial spa." The spa concept is designed to attract wealthy clients by offering personalized service and products. The spa concept and the bank's efforts at turning around the former Nakornthon.

Standard Chartered shocks parents with cost data to sell college funds

Article Abstract:

Standard Chartered Bank of Malaysia embarked on an emotionally charged campaign to convince parents to open an account in the bank's new Higher Education Fund to prepare for their children's college education. Standard Chartered can provide parents a detailed financial plan suited to their specific needs. According to Kevin Swampillai, the bank's manager of investment services, the bank has surpassed its aim of 4,000 accounts by the end of 1997.
