The slow growth of the European disposable paper products market can be attributed to demographics and the relative saturation of the market. Growth in the sector is achieved through product differentiation, where improvements in absorption and comfort. Raw materials price fluctuations were responsible for the low value growth, with the UK posting a 2.3% value growth and 4.5% for the Spanish market. Sales is led by the sanitary products sector followed by disposable diapers.

A number of trends have been observed in the French stationary market. The market was valued at 26.1 billion francs in 1994 and has grown by 5.7% between 1990 and 1994. The total market is also expected to reach 26.5 billion francs in 1999. Demand remains seasonal with the highest occurring at the start of the school year while stationery specialists continue to account for the bulk of retail sales.
