Japan's Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) is divided on the issue of electoral reform, which prime minister Kiichi Miyazawa sees as one of the nation's most pressing needs. The LDP's standing in the polls is already low, and the current wave of political infighting is not improving its image.

Article Abstract:

Hiroshi Kumagai, a key figure in the Reform 21 wing of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), has taken the rare step of publicly criticizing LDP leader Kiichi Miyazawa. Kumagai published an article in the influential 'Bungei Shunju' journal attacking Miyazawa's economic policies.
