Article Abstract:

Albania has been more welcoming to ethnic Albanians fleeing Kosovo, Yugoslavia, than has Macedonia, which has turned back some refugees and processed others very slowly. There is some concern about the possible impact of Kosovans on Albanian politics, and they could strengthen the position of the north, rather than the south, more oriented toward Greece. Macedonian Slavs are concerned that the ethnic balance of the country will change if large numbers of refugees settle there.
