Stitching labor change in Italy

Article Abstract:

Valeria Fedeli of the fashion and textile labor union, Filtea of Italy, is advocating innovative solutions to the problem of increased Asian competition. Ms. Fedeli pushes for improvements in manufacturing standards for Italian textile products, bonuses for home subcontractors and tax breaks for research and development. Revenue for the fashion and textile industry was 43 billion Euros ($52.4 billion) in 2004, down ten percent since 2002.

German Unions see leverage in pay fight

Article Abstract:

Germany is experiencing increased economic growth with greater corporate profits and labor unions are gearing up to negotiate for higher wages. However if wages increase too greatly corporations may outsource to foreign countries with less expensive labor. Projections on economic growth for Germany are slow at 1.5 percent to two percent for 2007.

Unions plan strikes at Hyundai, Kia to protest new free-trade pact

Article Abstract:

Hyundai Corp. and Kia Motors Corp. face strikes by unionized workers protesting the free-trade agreement between the U.S. and South Korea, which is slated to be signed on June 30, 2007. Unions are concerned over production in overseas plants.
