Investors in Asia are now using a value strategy in choosing stocks from financially healthy companies, but differing accounting rules in many countries may impede that tactic. Comparing financial results across jurisdictions is difficult due to various accounting standards, and investors should be aware of how companies can use the rules to their advantage.

Cash crunch threatens many Asian companies

Article Abstract:

The downturn in the economy is forecasted to challenge many companies who can no longer receive funding as easily as in the past. Compared to last year, corporate-bond issues are down around 22%, syndicated loans are down around 16% and new share issues are down 61%. Creativity will be necessary to secure future funding in such a lean economic climate.
