Five alternative weekly newspapers have formed the Canadian Alternative Newspaper Network (CANN) to target national advertisers that are seeking to tap the 18-to-34 urban markets. The single-source representation allows the five urban weeklies to have a combined media kit, to offer volume discounts and to establish a sales office in Toronto. The five members of CANN are Monday Magazine, Scene Magazine, Uptown, Fast Forward and See Magazine.

Incubators hatch brand campaigns

Two Canadian incubator companies plan to launch marketing plans to establish brand awareness. Online incubator Equityengine.com launched on Apr 5, 2000 and offers anyone equity in any dot.com they help start-up by providing their own skills. Internet media and marketing company SUMmedia.com Inc. also launched an incubator Web site. Its first client is the Web site foresomeonespecial.com.
