Striptease act

Article Abstract:

Two Chinese companies, Shanghai Petrochemical and Tsingtao Brewery, are apparently set to become the first of nine firms to list stocks on the Hongkong exchange. Both held presentations intended to inform prospective investment managers about the firms' potential as investments, but little valuable information was forthcoming at these meetings. Tsingtao plans to offer about $116 million in stock, while Shanghai Petrochemical has yet to spell out its offer in detail. Analysts remained skeptical about both companies.

Make up your mind

Article Abstract:

India's financial deregulation policy has done little to alter investment patterns across the country to stimulate economic growth. The ten privately-owned banks set up in 1994 to introduce new banking practices are largely isolated in an uncompetitive industry dominated by old-fashioned financial institutions. The mass reorganisation of the financial sector is 50% complete, say Indian government representatives. Others are doubtful that current policy will achieve its aims.

Enough is enough

Article Abstract:

Former business consultant Kenichi Ohmae will be running in the gubernatorial elections in Tokyo, which will be held on Apr 9, 1995. Ohmae, who is an ardent advocate of decentralization, was distressed by the government response during the Kobe earthquake. Ohmae started the 'Reform of Heisei' citizen's movement in 1992 as a non-political organization. Political analysts are not sure about Ohmae's victory in the coming election.
