Strong Euro bedevils EU firms

Article Abstract:

The currency value of the Euro has dropped 8.2 percent since mid-March, yet European businesses continue to struggle, with their rate of growth slowed or reversed by the currency's strength. STMicroelectronics N.V. is restructuring operations to Asia and other industries are moving their operations offshore.

Rosier outlook for Euro Zone

The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, a Paris think tank, is forecasting an economic growth rate of 2.2 percent for the European Union in 2007, up from 2.1 percent in 2006. However, there may be an economic slowdown if the Euro continues to rise against the United States Dollar.

Euro's allure appears to wane in eyes of long-term investors

The Euro is in sharp decline, closing at $1.2161 against the Dollar on the New York Stock Exchange yesterday. Long-term investors have played a major role, divesting the Euro in the wake of a lack of political confidence in the European Union in recent weeks.
