Article Abstract:

The liquor stores owned by the Ontario Liquor Control Board not only gives consumers the opportunity of leisurely selecting what they want to buy but also gives them the chance to listen to jazz music on the stores' music listening stations, use the Internet to access information on a particular beer or wine or participate in cooking or wine appreciation courses. The stores also have wide aisles, colorful signage, softer lighting, maple cabinetry and pastel-colored walls and tiles.

AMC enters the cinema ad scene

Article Abstract:

AMC Entertainment Inc of Kansas City, MO, has ventured into Canada with the opening of two new megaplex theaters in Toronto, Ontario. The AMC Kennedy Commons 20 Theater and the AMC Winston Churchill 24 Theater are expected to give Canada's two major theater chains, Cineplex Odeon and Famous Players, a strong competition for in-cinema advertisers. AMC has contracted Toronto-based Echo Advertising + Marketing to promote its theaters.

Smaller, powerful group rules radio

Article Abstract:

Several large national broadcasters have come to dominate Canada's radio broadcasting industry since the CRTC lessened its restrictions on station ownership last year. Some of the most powerful broadcasters are Telemedia Communications Inc, which has acquired 31 radio stations and Shaw Communications Inc with 12 new stations and Astral Communications Inc which has acquired 15 Quebec radio stations.
