Succession talk stirs as DBS gets ready to ring out olds

Development Bank of Singapore's chief executive officer John Olds will resign from his position this year, leaving the job open to several of the bank's top executives. Potential candidates include chief financial officer Jackson Tai, senior managing director and group head of Treasury and Markets Frank Wong Kwong Shing, and front-runner and consumer-banking group head Philippe Paillart.

CEO improves DBS outlook

Article Abstract:

Development Bank of Singapore's (DBS) CEO John T. Olds, the 55-year-old New Yorker who assumed his position in Aug 1998, is credited for implementing changes that has helped make the financial institution more profitable. DBS, the biggest bank in Singapore, has implemented technical changes that has allowed it to make better use of capital either in buying back its shares or preparing for acquisitions. DBS is in the process of shifting into a holding-company structure, a move described as a form of capital management.
