Market profile 2: confectionery in Germany

Article Abstract:

The retail market for confectionery in Germany grew 3.4% in value and 2.7% in volume in first-half 1999 over 1998, with sales of sugar confectionery increasing 4% in value and 5.7% in volume and sales of chocolate rising 4% in value and 2.3% in volume. Chocolate confectionery exports declined 11% in value and 16% in volume in 1998, mostly due to declining sales to Russia. German industry is expected to rationalise due to the saturated domestic market and high advertising costs.
