Super-money for super-water?
Article Abstract:
Prazske VAK (PVAK) (Prague, Czech Republic), water firm, will be acquired by the consortium Vivendi-Anglian Water (France/UK) in 2001. The consortium, the representative of which is Prague Water CGE-AW (Prague, Czech Republic), won a tender for the purchase of a 66% stake in PVAK with an offer of CEK 6.1 bil in Jan 2001. The second bidder was a consortium of International Water and United Utilities, which offered nearly 50% lower sum for the stake in PVAK than the first bidder. The third bidder Suez Lyonnaise des Eaux (France) offered CEK 2.6 bil for the stake. PVAK's stock is over CEK 790 mil. The minimum declared price for the stake was CEK 721.082 mil.

Bottled water in the UK
Article Abstract:
Bottled water consumption in the UK amounted to 985 million litres in 1999, up 20% from 1998. Still water accounted for 57% of volume. Consumption of bottled water is set to reach around 1.5 billion litres by 2004, valued at 720 million pounds sterling.

The retail market for bottled water in the UK is analysed. Findings suggest that the increase in market growth is linked to growing trends towards healthier products and public concern over tap water quality.
