TNPL LOSS AT Rs3.6 CR

Article Abstract:

Tamil Nadu Newsprint and Papers Ltd (TNPL) recorded net loss of Rs3.57 crore in 1997-98 (net profit of Rs17.37 crore in 1996-97). This is attributed to lower sales realisation, decline in international prices of paper leading to cheaper imports and increased cost of inputs. TNPL produced 1.18 lakh tonnes of printing and writing paper and 52,000 tonnes of newsprint in 1997- 98. TNPL's 1.8 lakh tonne capacity plant operated reported a capacity utilisation of 94.79 percent. TNPL Q3 NET PROFIT AT Rs1.02 CRORE

Tamil Nadu Newsprint and Papers Ltd (TNPL) has posted a net profit of Rs1.02 crore for the third quarter ended December 31, 1998. Its turnover was at Rs110.26 crore. Interest and financial charges accounted for Rs16.41 crore while depreciation was at Rs11.84 crore. The improved performance is attributed to higher capacity utilisation and cost cutting measures adopted by TNPL. (um)(vr)

TNPL FIRST HALF SALES UP 12.9%

Article Abstract:

Tamil Nadu Newsprint and Papers Limited (TNPL) has posted a 12.90 percent rise in its sales during the first half of 1998-99. During this period, it produced 90,012 tonnes (83,236 tonnes during the first half of 1997-98) and recorded a capacity utilisation of 100 percent (92.48 percent). The rise in the sales is attributed to the cost cutting measures and increased production. (ag)
