TTL TO LAUNCH SERVICES BY JANUARY '99

Article Abstract:

Tata Teleservices Ltd (TTL), a joint venture of the Tatas, Bell Canada International (BCI) and American International Group (AIG), will launch telecommunication services covering a 70 km radius of Hyderabad in January 1999. TTL is targeting 50,000 subscribers in a year. It will deploy wireless and wireline technologies in Andhra Pradesh. It has invested Rs600 crore. It proposes to invest over Rs1,500 crore before September 1999. Over 15 years, the investment in Andhra Pradesh is to be $2 billion. Its services are to include leased lines, ISDN, voice mail and data services. TTL is also providing services to IT (information technology) groups in Infocity, near Hyderabad. (nr)

IDBI BANK PLANS TO PROVIDE ELECTRONIC CLEARING SERVICES

Article Abstract:

IDBI Bank plans to launch electronic clearing services for public utility companies. It is currently negotiating with some electricity companies in India for offering the electronic clearing services for them to route payments through the bank. The system will allow the customer to swipe his card and enter the amount to be paid on his electricity bill. The bank also plans to launch a debit card. (ag)

QUADRANT OFFERS BRANDED MEDIA-BUYING SERVICES

Article Abstract:

Quadrant Communications (QC) of Pune, has launched Millennium, a branded media-buying service. QC is an advertising joint venture of Interpublic Group of Companies of US and Pratibha Advertising. It has closed down its print and production unit. The Kirloskar group holds 51 percent stake in Quadrant while IPG holds the rest. It has projected capitalised billings of Rs55-60 crore for 1998-99.
