Bookseller signs on to the internet- at last

Article Abstract:

Taiwan's bookstore chain Eslite Corp. has invested NT$80 million, including the hiring of 30 new employees, into its recently launched online store which offers content on culture, art and reading as well as online seminars and activities. Eslite's expansion plan includes investing an additional NT$60 million into its virtual store next year and opening 40 to 60 new brick and mortar stores in the next 4 to 5 years.

Eastern advertising helps give Taiwan beer sparkling image

Eastern Advertising Ltd. has been advertising Taiwanese beer for Taiwan's Tobacco and Wine Board for three years. In that time, the company has doubled domestic beer's share of the market with advertising catering to young adults.

TV may be the country's preferred portal to the Web: set-top box strategy boasts price and market-penetration advantages over PCs

Article Abstract:

The set-top box may prove to be the most successful means of expanding Internet usage in China. That is in part because PCs remain relatively expensive in the country. While less than 1% of Chinese households have a PC, a reported 91% have a television. Companies such as Shanghai WebTV and Microsoft are offering set-top Internet-access solutions that cost about a third of what a low-end PC would cost.
