TVS-SUZUKI POSTS 27% INCREASE IN H1 TURNOVER

Article Abstract:

TVS-Suzuki Ltd has increased its turnover by 27 percent to Rs617.04 crore in the first half of 1998-99 compared to a turnover of Rs484.91 crore in the first half of 1997-98. Its net profit has increased by 27 percent to Rs43.49 crore against Rs34.25 crore. Its provision for depreciation has increased to Rs12.10 crore from Rs8.71 crore due to additional capital expenditure made in 1998-99 for its new scooter manufacturing plant at Mysore. The company's sales volumes have grown by 21 percent to over 3.34 lakh vehicles in the first half of 1998-99 against slightly under 2.77 lakh vehicles in the first half of 1997-98. (khr)

GOVERNMENT, SUZUKI PATCH UP; BHASKARUDU'S TERM CURTAILED

Article Abstract:

Suzuki Motor Corporation (SMC) has decided to withdraw arbitration proceedings against the Government of India over the appointment of RSSLN Bhaskarudu as the managing director of Maruti Udyog Ltd (MUL). Mr Bhaskarudu will continue as the managing director till December 31, 1999, instead of 2002 AD as originally planned. Mr Jagdish Khattar will take over as the new managing director on January 1, 2000. Mr Y Saito is replacing Mr Probir Sengupta as the chairman of MUL with immediate effect. (khr)

VP, GM OF GENERAL MOTORS INDIA ELEVATED

Mr Aditya Vij has been appointed the general director of Opel Southeast Europe Limited effective September 1, 1998. He is currently the Vice President (Marketing) of General Motors India Limited (GMIL). The company's general manager sales, Mr Rajeev Chaba, will now move up and occupy the position of vice president in charge of sales, marketing and after-sales in India.(uh)
