TWO MORE CHANNELS TO JOIN STAR'S INDIAN BUFFET

Article Abstract:

NewsCorp proposes to introduce two new satellite channels - Star World and Star Planet. NewsCorp, which owns the Star TV, proposes to launch the channels in June 1998. Star World will be offering English language entertainment including well known soaps, British comedies and thrillers. Star Planet will be a natural history education channel which is expected to be launched in collaboration with National Geographic. (ag)

MTV POSTS GROWTH, CHANNEL V RETAINS UPMARKET VIEWERSHIP

Article Abstract:

Among satellite music channels, MTV has recorded extraordinary growth, especially among the youth. Now it is viewed in 9.5 million households (3.6 million households at the beginning of 1997). MTV's gross rating points (GRPs) in the 4 major metros increased to 42.5 in July 1998 (7.2 in September 1997). The GRPs of Channel V were 19.3 (16.3) and those of Music Asia 45.3 (24.7). (gs)

ICO GLOBAL, VSNL SIGN DISTRIBUTION PACT

Article Abstract:

The Videsh Sanchar Nigam Ltd (VSNL) has signed a preliminary distribution pact with ICO Global Communications (IGC). According to the pact, IGC and VSNL will be floating a tie up. The tie up will distribute IGC's global mobile satellite communications services in India. These services will offered during the year 2000. (ag)(m)
