Taiwan justice minister fights flouting of laws

Article Abstract:

Taiwanese Justice Minister Ma Yingjeou has been aggressively trying to strengthen the rule of law in his country. Ma has been considering several ideas for reforming the poor state of Taiwan's legal system. Some his proposals include the enactment of strict rules on disclosure, conflicts of interest and lobbying and improvements in the country's prison system. Despite the prevalence of corruption and wanton disregard for law and order, Ma expressed optimism over plans to reform Taiwan's legal system.
